We just finished watching the movie La Bamba in Spanish 2, which my students liked a lot. We watched it in English with Spanish subtitles. To make the film add to language acquisition and to not have it just be “watching a movie” we did several activities with it. I did some of these activities as stations.
First, we read a summary of the movie and did a cloze activity with it. While reading it in class, you could even have someone write a simple true/false quiz.
Second, we listened to the song La Bamba and did some vocabulary with it.
Third, we did a sequence activity. I printed out very large lyrics and gave each student a part of the song. As I played the song, they lined themselves up in order. I gave them two tries.
I created this screen shot video:

I also made THIS SCREENSHOT POWERPOINT
Here is a collage that I used for a speaking assessment:

This is incredibly generous of you to share all these wonderful assets, that I KNOW took you a long time to make! Thank you so much; you’ve made my day! 🙂
It is my pleasure! Thank you for the comment
Do you leave out some of the scenes such as the shower and the sexual scene in the beginning and the drugs and RV scene about 1/3 of the way in?
Full disclaimer: I have not shown this movie in a loooong time but yes, I would cut out the shower and sex scene as well as other inappropriate moments
