2018 Navidad Commercial Madness!

Here is the 2018 Navidad Commercial Madness bracket and supplementary activities!

2018 Navidad Commercial Madness

Announcing the 2018 edition of Navidad Commercial Madness!!  This post contains the new 2018 bracket along with supplementary activities.  The activities document has links to Kahoot, Edpuzzle, and ways to make each commercial comprehensible.  I have also included links to my Google folder of the downloaded commercials, the Youtube playlist, and bulletin board materials to make your own bracket.

You can follow along the Bracket Madness on Twitter.  Share your results using the hashtag #navidadmadness .  I can’t wait to see how these commercials do in your classes; there will be some tough battles.

I was completely flattered as to how many people asked me if I was going to do this again.  I was also humbled to read how many people used the Navidad Madness last year.  I was thinking of selling it this year on Teachers Pay Teachers but I decided not to.  You get all of this for free!!  I hope you have as much fun with it as I do.

If you did not do last year’s bracket, here it is.  There were some really good commercials last year too.  The post also has a basic outline of how I do the commercials each class.

My thanks to Nancy Kattoula for proofreading the activities

  1. Thank you so much for doing this and letting us use it for free.  I appreciate it so much! You saved me tons of time and money also.  Mil gracias!!!!!!!

  3. No tengo palabras más que un millón de gracias por compartir tu tiempo, tu talento, tu entusiasmo, y tu fraternidad con nosotros! ¡Te queremos y te estamos muy agradecidos! Un abrazo y felices fiestas! Nidia

  4. Thank you so much for allowing all of us to use your amazing collection! You are very generous and the work you have done is top notch! I can’t wait to share with my colleagues this year!

  5. Dustin — I love the idea of including this activity in my classes this year! Thank you for sharing so generously. I do have a few questions… I see that some of these commercials are from previous years. How did you choose which ones to include?
Also, your supplemental activities look really good. I see in previous years you have had a transcript of the texts of each commercial, but not this year. Do you feel it wasn’t as effective to review the transcript before watching the commercials?

    • I like to include commercials that are longer than 30 seconds so when researching which ones to include, I just search for Navidad anuncio on Youtube and see which ones come up. I also search for some company ones like Repsol. When I put the activities together, unfortunately many of the 2018 commercials aren’t out yet. If the commercial is long and has a lot of dialogue, I just have the transcript. If I can make an activity out of the transcript, then I did that. I prefer to review the transcript activity first then watch the commercial.

  6. Thank you for your generosity. I used it with my classes last year and we loved it! Looking forward to using it again this year.

  7. Thank you so much for this amazing activity. It’s so generous of you to provide it for free, and I can’t wait to do it. The written story of Anuncio 5 had one error at the end I wanted to mention, I think “querer” was the verb but it’s “creer.” Since this changes the meaning I wanted to let you know. So it would be: “creeme que hay demasiadas cosas cada día…” I also updated the Anuncio 5 story to be present tense only, so that my Spanish 1 students can understand it a little easier. I’m happy to share by email if you would like to include it as an option for people. Thanks again!!

  8. Thank you so much! I know that must have been a lot of work to put together, but your fellow teacher friends appreciate the time it took to create and that you are generous enough to share.

  9. Muchisimas gracias! My students were already asking if we were going to do this again. They will be so thrilled! 🙂

  10. Thank you so much for all of your hard work and for your willingness to share it with all of us!

One question – do you tally the votes and update the bracket for individual classes or for all of your classes combined?

  11. I can’t wait to use this, starting tomorrow for sure! Making sure I start off correctly, I total the votes for all of my classes? Or do we keep a bracket for each class?

  12. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! My students loved this last year and I can’t wait to do this new set of commercials with a new group!

  13. This is fantastic! Thanks so much for sharing all your hard work. I’m really excited to try this with my students this year!

  14. You are amazing. I did this last year and LOVED it. The kids loved it. We laughed about “Papa Schmuel” all year. It’s so generous of you to share.

  15. Thank you Thank you!!! I know this must have been lot of work for you, but Myself and my students appreciate it! I did it last year with my middle schoolers and they had a blast!!! They loved all the activities and enjoyed watching the videos even though they could not fully understand the language.

  16. Thank you for making the Anuncios bracket and activities! For most of the activities, the kids can easily understand what to do. What do you have your kids do with Anuncios 7, 11, and 14, and the pictures with anuncio 10?
    Thanks for helping!
